On the Workbench - German Vehicles in Progress

German Panther, FlaK and Recon Platoons in Progress

Hobby progress has been a bit of a slow one of late. I started painting the vehicles for my army back in August, but a series of unfortunate events stopped any progress on them. Unfortunately this also stopped me from playing Flames of War, as I only have one army and didn't want to risk chipping my paint jobs that are in progress.

Please be warned, it's a very dreary day in the UK today with a particular lack of natural light so the colours in these photos don't reflect what they actually look like in the flesh.

With my Panther platoon, I've now got to the point where I can start applying decals and give them a good old fashioned spot of weathering, which I'm rather looking forward to! The Panthers are painted in an all over coat of dunkelgelb, matching the scheme of vehicles from I.Abt./Pz.Rgt.26, who temporarily replaced the I Abteilung Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland in the summer of 1944 while said battalion was refitting with Panther tanks in France.

They've been given a coat of gloss varnish in preparation for the application of decals, which have been supplied by Dom's Decals.

My Sd.Kfz 10/5 Platoon and the Panzerspäh Platoon have been given their dunkelgelb basecoat in preparation for application of a soft-edge camouflage pattern in green and brown. I've also painted the 2 cm FlaK gun barrels in grey. For the dunkelgelb I've used Vallejo Model Air 71.025 Dark Yellow, and the gun barrels are in 71.056 Panzer Dark Grey from the same range. Both were applied using a zenithal highlighting technique which I think looks rather good, but I'm still getting the hang of.

Next on the list is getting decals applied to the Panthers and getting them finished, once they're done I'll be sure to put a post together about them.
